who wrote this?
I did! Well, I mean, I wrote the words. I didn't build the actual website or design the lovely look of it, but I wrote the words that are on it. Writing has always been a passion of mine and under the guise of Bird Does Words I’m developing a sideline creating website blurb, articles, editorials and advertising copy.
If you have enjoyed reading this and would like to employ my writing services to help you convey a message or communicate a passion, please get in touch.

Here’s another example of my work: an editorial for a local directory.
feel the heat!
Gill Ayshford is a local therapist with ten years experience working with holistic massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and Reiki. She is now blending these therapies with Hot StoneFusion, having trained in Brighton earlier this year. Last month I took my tight, tired and aching body for a treatment and walked away feeling looser, softer and very inspired.
Welcomed into her therapy room, which is adjacent to her home, I felt immediately at ease as Gill asked me about myself and talked about what her massage might offer me. We discussed my particularly sore right hip and agreed a session that would focus on easing the pain in my hip whilst giving me an overall feeling of relaxation.
Gill’s big passion is pain relief. “I love feeling I can help someone to be more comfortable. I don’t like seeing people in pain, particularly with tension headaches.” Her eyes light up as she explains, “I love knowing I have the training and skills at my fingertips to make a difference and that people don’t necessarily need to take painkillers. It’s the ‘wow’ factor - clients leave feeling better and that gives me great satisfaction.”
Generosity and warmth are at the heart of Gill’s approach. Her recent addition of hot stones provides extra luxury to her treatments. I’ve experienced a lot of massage and was surprised that I couldn’t tell when Gill was using a stone to touch me - apart from the gorgeously engaging heat it brought. The volcanic basalt stones are beautifully smooth and really felt like the “extension to my own hands”, as Gill sees them.
Gill started her career after bringing up her children and it’s obvious why one of her specialities is antenatal and postnatal massage along with baby massage tuition courses. “I want to tell mothers and mothers-to-be, ‘come and have a treatment, you are worth it. Yes, your children are your number one priority and you are important too. This is your body even with a baby growing inside or a toddler running you ragged.’ ”
Gill’s skills and business have grown organically since 1997 when she first fell in love with reflexology and trained to become a practitioner. You may know her from Braidwood where she worked for a year until it closed and happily still sees a number of those clients today. She says it’s referrals and word of mouth that keep her phone ringing and since leaving the Long Street Halifax, Gill now has more time for giving treatments.
Lying quietly for a few minutes at the end of my session, I felt nourished and rested, like I’d stopped the world and found time to get in touch with myself again. A wonderful feeling! It’s no surprise that ninety percent of Gill’s clients book treatments regularly. Knowing how a hectic life can get in the way of important calls, I made sure I arranged my next session before I left. Now I’m counting the days until I can go back.
